The Hejaz Railway Museum is one of Madinah’s most important cultural and heritage landmarks, located in the historic Hejaz Railway Station, which was inaugurated in 1326 AH (1908 CE) to celebrate the arrival of the first train from Damascus to Madinah. The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage developed the site to serve as a cultural gateway reflecting the region’s rich Islamic history and archaeological heritage.
The museum includes the restored buildings of the Hejaz Railway Station, showcasing history from prehistoric times to the modern era. It also features the original locomotive repair workshop, transformed into an exhibition of the railway’s history. Inside the main station building, visitors will find permanent and temporary exhibition halls, a lecture and multimedia room, as well as spaces for cultural events.
In addition, the museum offers a handicrafts market, a museum gift shop, a traditional-style café, and the unique Train Restaurant, where 12 restored train carriages have been converted into family dining spaces, providing a one-of-a-kind experience.
