Al-Asfar Lake

Al-Asfar Lake, located in Al-Omran east of Al-Ahsa, is one of the most remarkable natural landmarks in Saudi Arabia. It is the largest body of water in the Arabian Gulf region and the only lake in the Kingdom that supports a fully integrated ecosystem. Historically, it was known as Hijr Lake.

The lake plays a vital role in the region, as it absorbs excess rainwater and protects the surrounding areas from swamp formation through open drainage channels. For locals, it has long been a source of livelihood, providing grasses used as livestock fodder, small fish, and plants such as reed grass (Al-Asl), which is traditionally used in handicrafts and small-scale industries.

In addition, the lake serves as a natural habitat for a wide range of animals and both resident and migratory birds, making it a unique environment for biodiversity and eco-tourism.

With Wadi Trip, you can visit Al-Asfar Lake as part of our Al-Ahsa tours, where you’ll enjoy an extraordinary experience that combines the beauty of nature with the richness of wildlife.
