Al-Qaysariya market

The Al-Qaysariya market in Al-Ahsa is one of the Kingdom’s oldest and most iconic traditional markets, located in Al-Rifa’a District of Hofuf, Eastern Saudi Arabia. Built in 1822 CE (1238 AH), it is a historic souq that reflects the region’s deep-rooted cultural and commercial heritage.

The market comprises around 422 shops—of which 177 are owned by the municipality and leased to traders, while 251 are privately owned by local families. The shops are arranged in closed, roofed passageways, designed in the distinctive Ottoman architectural style, and sell a wide variety of goods including perfumes, fabrics, spices, gold, and traditional handicrafts.

In 2001, the market was severely damaged by a fire of unknown cause, leading to its closure. However, after extensive restoration, it was fully reopened in late 2013, restoring its charm and importance as a cultural landmark.

Today, Qaisariya Market stands as one of the most visited attractions in Hofuf, drawing visitors from across Saudi Arabia, neighboring Gulf countries such as Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, as well as tourists from around the world who come to experience its authentic atmosphere.
